SIZZLING ACTION IN CARIBBEAN CUP SOCCER WEEK 3
The action in yesterday’s Caribbean Cup games was fast and furious and did not leave the many soccer fans who came out to support their favorite teams disappointed. When the dust had settled some were happy, others sad. St. Lucia: 2 Dominica:1 Newcomers to Caribbean Cup soccer, Dominica, met their match in the team from St. Lucia in the first game of the afternoon. While the Dominicans were lucky in their opening game against Grenada which ended in as nil all draw, they were not as lucky yesterday. St. Kitts/Nevis: 3 St. Vincent/Grenadines: 0 The shocker of the afternoon came in this match-up which proved a goal-scoring bonanza for the St. Kitts/Nevis players. Teams from St. Vincent have the most wins in Caribbean Cup competition over its 14 year history, and were expected to carry on that tradition this year. St. Kitts had other ideas. Grenada: 3 Trinidad & Tobago: 0 The feature game saw defending champions Grenada show the style and class their fans recalled from last year, but had not seen in their first outing this season. The local Spice Boyz had the local Soca Warriors under pressure from the first whistle and dominated play completely. The match provided lots of thrills and spills including an own goal by the Trinidad team. Play continues in the Caribbean Cup 2005 season with a Fourth of July extravaganza this weekend with another triple-header. All games in the competition are played at the Jefferson High School field at Flatlands and Shepherd avenues in the Spring Creek section of Brooklyn. The cost of admission in the preliminary round is $7. For information on the Carribean Cup or for season tickets, contact Curtis Chance, 718-859-7300 or 646-879-5732.
