GRENADA HOSTS ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP SECURITY PLANNING M...
ST GEORGE'S, Grenada: Tuesday saw the close of the second Security Directorate Meeting, held in Grenada chaired by John Collymore, Security Director of ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. the body responsible for the development of policies, procedures and management of the delivery of all contractual aspects of the tournament. The first Security Directorate Seminar took place in Kingston, Jamaica in May. The regular meetings are attended by senior representatives from the police forces of all nine countries in the region that are hosting matches during ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and deal with a number of event specific security and tournament wide matters likely to affect the region. Critical discussions relating to the operational security for the 2007 mega-event form the basis for the agenda. The agenda for this two day session features progress updates from each representative of the nine Local Security Committees, which have been set up to address operational planning and the logistics of implementing the Master Operations Plan that will be used in all of the participating countries. Other key matters up for discussion on the agenda include prohibited and restricted items, crowd access, accreditation and media management, as well as the specific safety and security measures at the venue development stage, general and event specific training requirements for those involved in the tournament The first day also featured a presentation from Mr Edwin Harewood, Attaché for the Caribbean Custom Law Enforcement Council (CCLEC) which explored a regional perspective on border security and the impact it will have on ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. Commenting on the impact of these meetings Collymore said; “The opportunity for regular dialogue with my colleagues across the region is essential for the successful delivery of a safe and secure event. Every participant in the Security Directorate meetings is fully aware of the size of the task ahead and the commitment shown by the security forces across the region to work in partnership, gives me great confidence in the delivery of our objectives. As we meet for the second time the value of this type of interactive discussion continues to be demonstrated.“ Through these meetings significant progress has been made in developing the Pan-Caribbean approach to safety and security issues, as shown in the acceptance of common models towards this end.
