BET BACKING SOCA MUSIC
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (August 1, 2005) – A senior executive at BET Digital Networks has described the musical talent emanating from the 2005 Crop Over festival as "incredible". Cybelle Brown, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for BET Digital Networks, was speaking during her first visit to Barbados for the festival. "There's some incredible talent here." BET and Cable & Wireless are partnering to produce a series of feature programs, covering the Sumfest music festival in Jamaica, Crop Over festival in Barbados, and the 2006 Trinidad & Tobago Carnival celebration to air during Autumn 2005/Spring 2006. Brown says the kind of exposure Barbados will receive from the partnership will be invaluable. Asked whether soca music ever get the kind of mainstream recognition that reggae has enjoyed through the years, Brown says, "I hope so ...we will definitely continue to feature it on our networks."
