GRENADA’S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WANTS SHOES OFF
By Linda Straker The management of the Point Salines International Airport began its shoe removal at security this week as part of the 100 percent screening procedure for all departing passengers. “All passengers regardless of age will have to undergo the procedure because it’s all about security to passengers,” an airport official said. Normally, departing passengers would only pass through a security check that did not require the removal of shoes unless requested by screeners. However, because of new aviation rules for all international airports all passengers since 9/11 will have no choice but to remove their shoes when going through security check points. To prepare passengers for the new procedure there are notices at airlines check in areas of the airport as well as in the immigration vicinity. The compound of the airport is going through a phase-by-phase transformation and soon it will be concealed for only airport related matters. No vehicle will be allowed drive through or park close to the main terminal. There will also be a new parking space and a new road constructed. At present, part of the airport road is used as the main road but because of new aviation rules, Grenada is required to construct a new airport road. Reprinted from travelvideo.tv
