GRENADA PM MEETS WITH ARD DIRECTORS
ST. GEORGE’S Grenada: The housing challenges Grenada faces in this post Emily period and the Reconstruction and Development Fund were among the issues addressed during the weekly meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell and the Executive Directors of the Agency for Reconstruction and Development Inc. (ARD). Discussions focussed on the progress the ARD is making with respect to development of the Housing Settlement at Soubise and the recently identified site at Mt. Gay. The ARD is currently designing a project that will be submitted to the Caribbean Development Bank for the construction of the infrastructure, such as roads and utilities, for these two sites. The Prime Minister asked the ARD to work with the Housing Authority of Grenada and other stakeholders to establish a Materials Procurement Plan, in order to reduce the problems caused by shortages of building materials. With respect to the Reconstruction and Development Fund, The Prime Minister informed the ARD Directors that the Fund will be predominantly allocated to youth development, agricultural recovery and housing. He said it is critical that the Country invests in young people. “Our young people need hope. We need to work together to help them develop a sense of responsibility for their future”, he said.
