SUSPECT HELD, OTHERS QUESTIONED IN TRINIDAD BOMBING
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: A suspect has been held while two other persons are being questioned in connection with Wednesday’s explosion in downtown Port of Spain, Trinidad. Making the disclosure during the weekly post-cabinet briefing on Thursday, was the country’s national security minister, Martin Joseph. “Based on information received the police searched the home of a suspect on the evening of August 10 and detained him for further questioning,” reported Minister Joseph. “Two other persons are to be detained and their homes searched,” he added. While speaking to local reporters, Minister Joseph said that the island’s security forces were pursuing other leads that could lead to the detention of more persons in connection with terrorist-like activities. The minister however could not say whether there was any connection between the Monday, July 11 bombing on Frederick street and Wednesday’s explosion. There is now an increased presence of police and army personnel in and around the capital city as investigations continue. The explosion, the second in one month, has evoked widespread condemnation from the local business community, which has been calling for swift action in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
