MARTINIQUE MOURNS CRASH VICTIMS
Black ribbons flew from the antennas of cars, many people wore black, flags flew at half mast. Martinique is in deep mourning after Tuesday's plane crash in Venezuela in which 152 of its citizens died. The eight crew members of the Colombian airliner were also killed. On the French Caribbean island, the incident was deeply felt. "Martinique is such a small island, everybody was directly or indirectly affected by this", Aude Fauvre, a Martiniquan journalist told BBC Caribbean radio. "Everybody knows the name on the list, even if they don't know the person directly". Difficult task On Wednesday investigators in Venezuela combed the grisly wreck the plane. Recovery teams waded knee-deep in mud caused by heavy rains, finding mutilated bodies and body parts. It is unclear what caused the crash. France said it could take time to identify the passengers' bodies because of the state in which they were found. "The conditions in which we are recovering the remains signify a difficult task in recognising and especially a difficult task in identifying the victims," said French Foreign Minister Philip Douste-Blazy.
