MS. GRENADA/USA GOES HIGH-TECH
For the first time in the 14 year history of the Ms. Grenada/USA pageant, contestants vying for the title can be seen by a worldwide audience thanks to their collaboration with Grenadianconnection.com. Visitors to the site can view a profile as well as a video interview of each of the six young women who have entered this year’s contest. The Ms. Grenada/USA microsite was launched on Grenadianconnection.com on Thursday August 18, 2005 at 1:00 pm eastern standard time and has quickly caught the attention of Grenadians and others from all over the globe with well over 31,000 hits already recorded. Pageant coordinator, Ms. Cecily Mason, who is well known in the Grenadian community in New York, says she’s pleased by the newfound interest the community is taking in the contest. “We are proud of what we have accomplished through the pageant over the past 14 years, and we will continue to empower one young woman at a time.” Sponsored by the Grenadian American Ex-Teachers Association Inc., the competition seeks to increase the visibility of Caribbean culture in North American and to maintain the Grenadian heritage here in a sea of diversified ethnic culture, among its many goals. One interesting feature of the site is that visitors who log on can vote for their favorite contestant. The young woman receiving the most votes will be presented with the Grenadianconnection.com trophy for Online Favorite at the finals which will be held on September 17 at the Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, N.Y.
