GRENADA TO RECEIVE OVER EC$600,000 FROM AUSTRALIA
The Australian Government has committed over EC$600,000 in aid to Grenada to assist with house building and repair. This increased assistance comes after a meeting in Washington last month between Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell and Australian leader John Howard. During last month’s meeting Prime Minister Mitchell made a plea to Mr. Howard for more assistance. Prime Minister Mitchell says that his Government continues to go all out to secure more help for persons in Grenada who need assistance after Hurricanes Ivan and Emily. Prime Minister Mitchell noted that thousands of homes across Grenada were battered by Ivan and the majority of home owners were uninsured. Prime Minister Mitchell says Government has had to intervene in a significant way to bring direct assistance to affected persons. Hon. John Howard M.P., Prime Minister of Australia, said that he was very saddened to hear that Grenada had suffered additional damage by another hurricane which caused more damage immediately after Hurricane Ivan. Prime Minister Mitchell has thanked the Government of Australia and has pledged to continue to seek more assistance for affected persons. Source: Office of the Prime Minister
