New York: With just a few days left before the much-anticipated third annual Irie Jamboree 2K5 concert unfolds at Roy Wilkins Park, Queens, New York on Sunday, September 4th 2005, the promoters are confident this year's festival will be bigger and better than ever.
“I am just amazed at the type of public interest this year’s lineup has garnered” Bobby Clarke, one of the principals of Irie Jamboree said.
“I predict this will be the biggest reggae event for the summer” he noted.
Seven of reggae’s most sought after acts, Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, son of reggae icon Bob Marley, dancehall reigning king Beenieman, the ‘Energy God’ Elephant Man, Richie Spice, Sanchez, Barrington Levy and controversial dj Sizzla Kalonge are confirmed performers at the event.
Other acts include Kip Rich, Aaron Silk, Ashkenaz, Aya, Baby Vinegar, Beniton, Capital D, Delly Ranks, Donovan Bonzana, Jovi Rockwell, Kyenie, Lij Amlak, Nye, Panic, Ragga Lox, Rally Bop, Shantel, Shawnie Ranks, The Rebel Emergency and Zum J.
Earlier this week, the promotion kicked into high gear with a well attended press reception at Nikki & Sam’s Club in Manhattan. Will Nelson, President of Southern Queens Parks Department who spoke, noted that his organization was in full support of Irie Jamboree while Bobby Clarke told the gathering that his business partner Louie Grant was on assignment in Florida trying to sign possibly one other major act for Sunday’s event. Other speakers were Garfield from Western Union, Donald Vernon from Vernon & Associates, Kawall Deosaras from Skyline Mortgage, Clive Williams of Where Itz At Magazine, Irwin Claire of Caribbean Immigrant Services and Steven ‘Yello’ Williams, CEO of Irie Jamboree.
Williams disclosed that the gates to Irie Jamboree will open at 12 noon and performances will begin at 1pm sharp. He encouraged patrons to get to the park early as the major acts will start performing from as early as 3pm.
The official Irie Jamboree 2k5 Landing Party is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 3rd at the Convention Center, 300 South 12th Street in Newark, NJ. Among the stars expected to attend include Sizzla, Richie Spice, Bushman, Delly Ranks, Twins of Twins and the USA Dancehall Queen Starlite. Music will be provided by Sound Wave International from Jamaica, Taffari, Snow White, Champange M and Shot Dat.
