MINISTRY OF WORKS UPDATE ON VENDORS
St. George’s: The Ministry of Communication, Works and Transport is working assiduously to relocate the Vendors at the temporary Bus Terminus and allow the Shopping Plaza project to continue. The Project is being delayed because the temporary Vendor Booths are preventing the progress of construction. Nine Vendors will have to be relocated immediately; as a result 11 temporary booths were constructed at the Market Square to accommodate these Vendors. Minister of Communication, Works and Transport Clarice Modeste-Curwen have held a number of consultations with Vendors occupying the Bus Terminus informing them of the importance of this relocation. However the Vendors have not responded to the verbal agreements made at meetings for their relocation. Letters were also written asking them to occupy the allocated temporary space at the market square, so far they have not responded favorably. Some Vendors were moved to the temporary location of the existing Bus Terminus when work commenced on the Market Square, the intentions of the Ministry is to house Vendors at this location until completion of the first phase of the Market and the new terminus. The new bus terminus is in the final stage of completion, when completed it will house 21 vendors, and a process of selecting vendors has been identified and discussed with them. The Cruise Port project is an ongoing project, part of the revitalization of the town of St. George. Presently the construction of the shopping plaza is well on the way, for the continuation of this project 9 vendor booths will have to be removed from the terminus.
