UPDATE ON BACOLET BRIDGE
click
St. George’s: The Ministry of Communication, Works and Transport informs the general public that the Structural Works on the Bacolet Bridge in St. David’s is complete. Backfilling and road works will soon be completed. The bridge is being constructed under the Ministry of Works’ Bridges and Roads Improvement project (BRIMP). A temporary bridge was built alongside the existing Bridge to facilitate pedestrians and motorist during construction. On Tuesday March 29 the existing bridge was demolished and construction commenced. In 2004 the Ministry of Works attempted reconstruction of the Bacolet Bridge, however this proved futile because of the flooding which occurred due to the rainy season. A small temporary bridge was built by the contractors which also contributed to the flooding, however being mindful of the difficulties faced last year, the contractor has built an improved temporary bridge using 10 culverts instead of the five used last year. There has been no occurrence of flooding during the construction process so far except through Hurricane Emily. Source:Ministry of Communication, Works & Transport
