The official launch of the 28th anniversary of the annual unique parang festival will again come with a strong vehement warning to the participating bands at this years melee competition to keep their lyrics extremely clean. The official kick of to the season is slated for Saturday September 17th at the coconut bar on Victoria street from 9 pm. Chairman ,Wallace Collins, told informers inside carriacou and petite Martinique that the exrcise will have live performances from the various parang bands and a Big jackpot money bingo game. However stated that they will also use the opportunity to again appeal to the bands to keep within the criteria they will be given for the night of the competition come Sunday December 18th. The chairman added they are in the process of putting forward a proposal to they main sponsors Cable and wireless and the Grenada board of tourism towards the conducting of a workshop for the bands so that they will be able to come with cleaner lyrics this year. Collins further pointed out they in conjuction with the regatta committee (who submitted and won the Digicel $10,000 Caring connections prize to repair the hillsborogh tennis court) will soon commence work for the restoration of the facilty. Due to the devastation of the venue last years festival was held at the heritage village in Belair. However the chairman said they will soon be working feverishly to have the festival returned to the Hillsborough tennis court. Commenting on the prizes for the bands this year ,Collins , said that while he couldnot at the time guarantee an increase did say that there will be a series of incentives at stake this year. He expects at least eight bands in competition this year and spoke of they delight to welcome “Men from the mainland” back to the stage after a one year break. The already record breaking defending champions the ghetto boys of six-Roads have already send a frightening warning to their competitors that they are confident of making this year their 10th straight victory, which will be unprecented , by a long way in the history of this unique cultural activity. This years festival will run from Friday December 16th to Sunday 18th.
