JAPANESE GOVERNMENT TO AID 4 ADDITIONAL GRENADIAN SCHOO...
The Ministry of Education is happy to announce that the Japanese Government has approved financial support for an additional four schools, under its Grant Assistance for Grass- Roots Human Security Projects (GGP). Receiving financial assistance under the first phase were the St. Mary’s Junior School, St. Joseph’s Convent St. George’s, St. David’s Catholic Secondary School, Mac Donald College, and the Wesley College. Construction work has already begun on several of the schools with some nearing completion. The four new schools which have been earmarked to receive financial assistance from the Japanese Government are the T.A. Marryshow Community College, St. John’s Christian Secondary School, St. Mark’s Secondary, and the Hillsborough Secondary School. A formal contract signing ceremony is scheduled for September 26 at the Ministry of Education. Several schools applied to the GGP for Grants to support initiatives in areas such as the remodelling and rebuilding of computer laboratories and libraries, rebuilding of classrooms, restoration of school farms. The GGP provides up to US$100,000.00 non-refundable financial assistance to NGO’s, hospitals, schools, and other non-profit organisations to help implement their development projects. The availability of GGP funding in each eligible country provides Japanese Overseas Development Aid (ODA) with a new means of cooperation that has a direct impact on the well being of grass-roots communities.
