PM MITCHELL TO PARTICIPATE IN HIGH-LEVEL UN MEETING
ST. GEORGE’S Grenada: Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell is currently on a visit to the United States to participate in the High-Level Plenary Meeting of the 60th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Grenadian leader will also take the opportunity to update the New York media on the reconstruction process currently taking place in Grenada following Hurricanes Ivan and Emily. On Monday, September 12, the Prime Minister was interviewed by Rennie Bishop of WWRL1600 Radio (New York’s Urban Talk). WWRL is a talk formatted 25k watts am radio station serving the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. WWRL reaches the world via live Internet streaming and is the primary legitimate voice of the Caribbean Diaspora with specific music and information broadcasts of and about the region. The interview will be aired during the Saturday morning radio program “Caribbean Views” on September 17. The Prime Minister will also meet the Caribbean Media at a Press Conference on Wednesday, September 14 in Brooklyn. On Wednesday, September 14, the Prime Minister will join other world leaders at the Opening of the World Summit which will conclude on Friday, 16th September. Prime Minister Mitchell will address the gathering on Friday, which will be brought live to listeners in Grenada. The Summit is expected to pronounce on proposals contained in the UN Secretary-General’s report delivered in March of this year -- “In Larger Freedom: towards development, security and human rights for all”. Mr. Annan strongly believes that this is a unique opportunity for the UN at its 60th Anniversary, to rise to the challenges presented by the 21st century.
