CARICOM HEADS APPEAL FOR MORE ASSISTANCE FOR GRENADA
Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell met today with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. Prime Minister Mitchell and other Caricom Heads who attended the meeting thanked the Government and people of Canada for the support shown to Grenada after Hurricane Ivan. Prime Minister Mitchell told Prime Minister Martin that Grenadians were thankful for the help they received from the Government and people of Canada. However, Prime Minister Mitchell joined other Caricom Heads in asking Prime Minister Martin for more assistance to support Grenada’s reconstruction efforts. The Caribbean heads gathered at the meeting noted that Canada needed to deepen its support to the region especially at the bilateral level. Prime Minister Mitchell said that Canada was very active in the past on the bilateral level and they needed to revive their bilateral thrust. Prime Minister Martin promised the Heads that Canada would help in every way possible and told them that Canada has been always a friend of the region and would continue to be. The group of leaders also discussed issues dealing with Haiti and the Kyoto Agreement. Source: Office of the Prime Minister
