CRISISSHIELD KICKS OFF NEW CAMPAIGN TO HOUSE GRENADA'S ...
CrisisShield begins its new Adopt-a-Family Program in Grenada this month. The program will provide houses for some of the most deserving families left homeless by Hurricanes Ivan and Emily. The Adopt-a-Family program is an opportunity to partner with a Grenadian family and help them escape the cycle of poverty that homelessness creates. For as little as US$10,000 a deserving family can be gifted a safe home of their own. Here are just two examples of the families we will help with our Adopt-a-Family Program. Finbar Phillips is now living underneath what used to be his home. His only shelter is a tarpaulin held down by boards. He maintains his sweetness and dignity despite his learning disabilities and his current homeless condition. Elma St. Louis had her home completely destroyed by Hurricane Ivan. She is elderly and suffers from numerous ailments that make it very difficult for her to walk. Elma is looking forward to a house in which she can feel safe and secure. The homeless families selected by CrisisShield represent the most needy. They are elderly or single parent families, mentally or physically disabled, or suffer from a debilitating illness. For complete information and a chance to meet more families, please visit www.CrisisShield.org. Hurricane Ivan decimated the island of Grenada and left 10,000 families, nearly 1/3 of the population, without homes. One year later Grenada is still suffering. Entire communities are without power, water and adequate housing. As a result of Ivan, Grenada has lost over US$800 million - twice the country's Gross Domestic Product. The impact of Hurricane Ivan was four times more devastating for Grenada than the Tsunami was for the Maldives. Then, ten months after Ivan, on July 14th, Hurricane Emily hit Grenada leaving another trail of destruction. Initial reports indicate that 40% of Grenada was impacted by this latest Hurricane, again. CrisisShield houses are a safe and comfortable solution, a home for those in dire need of shelter. They are produced extremely cost effectively and require only 4 weeks to build. These quality homes are built to withstand hurricanes and earthquakes. They are a quick and economical solution for the homeless hurricane victims of Grenada. www.CrisisShield.org
