GRENADA ELECTRICITY COMPANY ENDORSES PETRO-CARIBE AGREE...
GRENLEC officials have told Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell that they are in support of Government’s signing of the Petro-Caribe Oil agreement. During a meeting with the Prime Minister this morning GRENLEC Managing Director and C.E.O. Vernon Lawrence and Chairman Robert Blanchard said they recognised the hardships that consumers could face if action was not taken to control the price of oil. Prime Minister Mitchell noted that Grenada also had to be very concerned about its competitiveness. Prime Minister Mitchell said that high energy costs while hurting the consumers could also drive companies out of business. The Prime Minister and the GRENLEC officials agreed that Government and GRENLEC had to continue to ensure that the cost of energy did not negatively affect the business climate. The Prime Minister Mr. Lawrence and Mr. Blanchard also discussed possibilities for alternative energy and its potential to save costs to the consumer. Source: Office of the Prime Minister
