GRENADA OBSERVING OCTOBER AS PARENTING MONTH
ST. GEORGE’S Grenada: As means of educating parents about their role as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of Child, which Grenada signed in 1992, the Grenada National Coalition on the Rights of the Child will be observing October as Parenting Month. The messages throughout the month will be targeting every parent but special focus will be given to the role of fathers. In this regard the theme for the month is “Fathers Make Good Parents Too.” Activities throughout the month will include panel discussions via the electronic media and observing the third weekend in October as “Spend the weekend with your children.” One of the topics to be discussed is “Absence fathers and its link to juvenile delinquency.” The Coalition believes that the relationship between fatherlessness and youth delinquency is all the more compelling because of the amount of children in Grenada who are growing up in fatherless homes. The Coalition believes not only mothers but fathers have an instrumental role in the lives of all children. Reprinted from Caribbean Net News caribbeannetnews.com
