MORE HURRICANES EXPECTED THIS MONTH
FORT COLLINS, USA (UPI): A Colorado State University scientist predicts more-than-average number of hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean for October. "It's going to be above average," said Philip Klotzbach at the school's department of atmospheric science. "The wind shear is pretty low and the Atlantic is pretty warm, so it will be an active month. You will get a couple of storms before the season is over," reports the Rocky Mountain News. Klotzbach expects that October will bring three named storms, with wind speeds exceeding 40 miles per hour, with two of them reaching hurricane wind speeds reaching 75 miles or more. Klotzbach said the warmer water in the ocean is not due to global warming. "If you look at global tropic cyclones, the number has gone down the last 10 years," he said. He said the Atlantic Ocean undergoes cycles lasting 20 to 25 years in which the water warms and then cools off. Reprinted from Caribbean Net News caribbeannetnews.com
