NEW REGGAE LIVE SPOTLIGHT
“Miami will have nothing on Brooklyn on the weekend of October 8, 2005,” is the view of Slinky Sharp, a cousin of reggae trailblazer Junior Tucker. As Slinky puts it, “This show might be the biggest showcase of new reggae artists ever to take place in New York City.” Nineteen new reggae artists are carded to perform in what is being dubbed “A Massive Spotlight On New Artists.” The show and dance, which will be venued at The Palace, located at 834 Clarkson Avenue in Brooklyn, is expected to deliver an abundance of quality music for the reggae lovers left in the dropping temperatures of Brooklyn. While the soca revelers are taking Miami by storm, absorbing and adding to the higher temperatures there, reggae lovers will be treated to a slate of Caribbean artists who will highlight the various sub-genres of reggae – from dancehall to conscious rockers. The artists lined up to give live performances include the dynamic K.C Jockey, the versatile Super P, the lyrical Slinky Sharp, and the conscious Rouff Draff. The other hot new artists carded to perform include the talented Fyaworks, Rippa Jackson, Zumjay, Googs Tucker, Skina, Damage, Smurfy D, Berbice, Jah Pilot, King Lion, Bigshot Crew, Shavon, Natalie and Admiral Bally. Host of the show will be one of reggae’s leading disc jockeys, Yonnie of FM 93.5 and 95.9, formerly of WLIB. Other music-weavers in the line-up include Danger of FM 105.5, Joe Bailey of FM 96.7, Undertaker Sound, Earth Ruler, BQE, and PX from North Carolina. In addition to the live reggae performances, the attendees will be graced by the presence of the beautiful models of designer Donna Moore’s 2005 Multicultural Pride Beauty Pageant. And for posterity’s sake, the moments will be captured by Steve Austin’s Dancehall World, Ritch Image Productions, and GrenadianConnection.com. More information on this special cultural event can be obtained from Gerry Hopkins at 347-742-7256.
