GAYLE NO 5 IN ODI RATINGS
Sri Lanka's wicketkeeper/batsman Kumar Sangakkara has entered the top-10 of the world batting rankings after his team-best showing for the ICC World XI in the Johnnie Walker Super Series. Sangakkara was the leading run-scorer for the ICC World XI in the three matches played at Telstra Dome in Melbourne, totalling 138 runs including two half-centuries, and those performances have catapulted him up 12 places to number nine in the rankings for batsmen in the latest LG ICC ODI Player Rankings announced yesterday. Australia's Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting retain the top two batting places after both scored heavily in the Super Series. Australians dominate the top of the bowling rankings with Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee unchanged in the top two places, Lee reaching his highest ever points ranking. The West Indies have only one player in the batting top-10, Chris Gayle at number five. Ramnaresh Sarwan at 12th, West Indies' captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul (26th) and Brian Lara (29th) are the other West Indies batsmen in the top-30 of ODI batting ratings. In the bowling rankings, the left-arm seamer Ian Bradshaw is the only West Indian in the top-30, appearing 20th on the list. Reprinted from jamaicaobserver.com
