WORLD CUP TICKETS GO ON SALE FROM APRIL
BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) - Cricket fans regionally and internationally should be able to purchase tickets for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 from next April, ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 has announced. Responding to a question at Tuesday's St Kitts & Nevis leg of the Stakeholders Road Show, Managing Director and CEO of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 Chris Dehring revealed this is the time at which tickets are expected to go on sale through an application process. Noting that the ticketing policy is a complex issue which has to mesh the needs of several stakeholders, both within and beyond the Caribbean, he said the full ticketing programme will be made public at a Press Conference next month. "There will be an application process though... if you have ever tried buying a ticket for the FIFA World Cup you would see it's not like purchasing a ticket for the annual West Indies Home Series where you just go up to a ticket window, pay your money and get your ticket," Dehring told invitees at the Marriott Hotel in St Kitts. Meanwhile, CEO of St Kitts & Nevis' Local Organising Committee (LOC) Horatio Versailles announced his team is preparing to launch a countrywide Public Education campaign, to heighten awareness of certain regulations and requirements which must be adhered to for the Event. This, he elaborated, must be done well ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup as there are aspects that will be unfamiliar to the community. "Many regulations and requirements will impinge on the traditional behaviour of fans and we need to sensitise them on these matters," he said, giving an update on LOC activities. "The Anti Infringement Programme will limit what fans can do, wear and even carry into the grounds." The media blitz will also inform the St Kitts & Nevis Federation about plans to beautify their environs, in particular the Kittitian capital, Basseterre, where the new Warner Park ground will host First Round matches between Australia, South Africa, Holland and Scotland. Chairman of the LOC's Board of Directors Charles Wilkin hailed the Road Show as "a very useful and informative exercise" which dovetails perfectly with their Public Education drive. "It will help our efforts to energise our country - particularly the business sector - to begin capitalising on opportunities. It will also help to mobilise our committees which are now being fully extended and activated." Also attending the first of the day's two Stakeholders Road Show sessions was Jennifer Nero, one of the new directors of the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. Nero, a senior director of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank in charge of the Internal Audit Department, also found the Road Show highly enlightening, stating it was a good way to get an overall grasp of the ICC Cricket World Cup and relevant issues. The Stakeholders Road Show - a tour of the nine Host Venues by senior management from the ICC Cricket World Cup Headquarters in conjunction with the LOC's concludes in Jamaica next month.
