The Grenada Carnival Committee continues its efforts to improve the Carnival product, secure more interest, and engage Corporate Grenada all with the intent of making Spicemas the envy of the Caribbean. After a symposium for Calypso and Soca judges, on September 17, a steering committee was elected to pave the way for the formation of a Judges Association. The steering committee met for the first time on Saturday October 08th. Very important groundwork was laid for a constitution for the of the Judges’ Association. Specific issues dealt with were the selection process for judges, the education of Artistes and the general public about the criteria for judging the competitions and the conduct of judges during any given Carnival/Calypso season. The steering committee will meet again on Saturday October 29, with a general meeting of the entire body of prospective members of the Judges Association scheduled for mid-November. Presently the deadline set for the formation of a Judges Association by year-end is very much on target. The Grenada Carnival Committee is very excited about this development since it will mean an improvement in the competitions, art form and Carnival overall. Grenada’s music and Artistes continue to do very well outside of Grenada. On Saturday October 8, in London, Inspector continued his 20 anniversary celebrations with another grand display of the kind of entertainment that has made him one of Grenada’s favorite performers. His good friend Tallpree was on hand to partake in the celebrations. On Saturday October 15, a stellar cast of Grenadian stars will be in Toronto for what promises to be another huge Grenada showcase. Slated to perform are Ajamu, Inspector, Tallpree, Randy Isaac and Boogie B. All the performers have been a Monarch of some kind so Canada is certainly in for a treat. On Saturday October 22 Tallpree, Boogie B, Mr. West and Tiger T will be in New York for another highly anticipated Grenadian entertainment event. The show is being promoted by calypsonian and former ex-tempo monarch of Grenada – Lion. Saturday December 3, the place to be will be Moonlight City, St. Andrew’s as Grenada’s newest radio station, REALFM 91.9 celebrates its first anniversary. The celebrations will take the form of a major soca showcase featuring Shurwayne Winchester and the band Traffic, Maximus Dan along with Inspector, Tallpree, Boogie B, Baby Killa, Lavaman, Four Brass, Tiger T, Young Sound and GG and Berbice plus the Heatwave Band. 2005 to date has been a very good year for Grenada music, giving one reason to be very excited about the prospects for 2006 and beyond.
