OECS SUMMIT NEXT WEEK
THE VALLEY, Anguilla (AP) - Eastern Caribbean leaders will discuss regional unity and economic integration at next week's Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States summit in Anguilla, officials said yesterday. The meeting comes nearly two months before the January launch of the Caricom Single Market and Economy (CSME) designed to facilitate the movement of goods, services and certain categories of workers between 13 members of the regional bloc. A draft OECS economic union treaty will be released with the November 7 to 8 agenda, as well as legal reforms and the coordinated struggle against HIV/AIDS, the OECS secretariat said yesterday. Anguilla, Antigua, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts, St Lucia and St Vincent are members of the OECS, which was founded in 1981. Its countries share a common currency. All but Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, and Montserrat - which are British dependencies - are members of the Caribbean Community, which was founded in 1973.
