ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA: Work has officially begun to refurbish the island's national stadium -- a 56 million dollar project that should have been started months ago.
The stadium was destroyed last year with the passage of Hurricane Ivan.
After many missed dates for the start of the reconstruction, the project mainly with Chinese aid, has begun, with officials saying they are still confident they can finish it on time for the official inspection next October ahead of the 2007 World Cup.
Attending the Tuesday afternoon ceremony to signal the start of the project were Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell and Chief World Cup Organizer Chris Dehring.
