TOP POLICE OFFICERS TO GO
ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA: TWO of Grenada’s highest ranking police officers have been asked to resign, or accept new positions in the public service – one of the island’s newspapers is reporting. Assistant Commissioners Winston Darius and Willan Thompson are being moved from the police service, according to the Grenada Today newspaper. Only within the last year the Commissioner was changed, with Winston James replacing Fitzroy Bedeau following scathing public criticism of how the force performed in the aftermath of hurricane Ivan and with a breakdown of law and order. The newspaper reports that the pending removal of Darius and Thompson is part of a comprehensive shake-up of the force that is coming. However in a recent commentary, former Grenada Attorney General Lloyd Noel said the move against the two top officers could be linked to politics. A query for a government comment on the report went unanswered. Reprinted from caribupdate.com
