Ambassador Ruth Elizabeth Rouse, Permanent Representative of Grenada to the United Nations, recently participated in a Luncheon Meeting hosted by John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the City University of New York. The Ambassador was welcomed by Dr. Richard Saulnier, Interim Vice-President for Student Development and Enrollment Management, Ms. Cheryl Williams, Acting Assistant Dean of Special Programmes and (Grenadian) Mr. Carl Williams, Seek Counsellor, who has been assisting the newly enrolled Grenadian students at the College. There are currently four (4) students studying at John Jay College: Derek Benjamin (Police Science); Jason Hagley (Police Science); Lima Bullen (Forensic Science); and Keneisha Hobson (Forensic Science). They are part of a total of fifteen (15) Grenadian students who received scholarships from City University of New York (CUNY) following a request by the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr. The Right Hon. Keith C. Mitchell to CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein in April of 2005. The faculty reports suggest that the Grenadian students are performing extremely well and Ambassador Rouse took the opportunity to encourage them to continue their studies, with a view to contributing to the development of Grenada on their return. The remaining students will commence studies next semester in the areas of Civil/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences and Liberal Arts. The Government of Grenada has set out a number of priority areas required for training of young Grenadians in the above and other fields.
