HURRICANE SEASON ENDS; BUT TROPICAL STORM STILL ACTIVE
MIAMI (AP) - Tropical Storm Epsilon was still active yesterday - one day after the hurricane season officially ended - but was drifting over open water in the central Atlantic. The storm started to take a turn away from Bermuda, but could still cause the island dangerous surf conditions, forecasters said. The 26th named storm of the busiest hurricane season was not expected to hit Bermuda or any other land, according to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami. At 4 am EST (0900 GMT), Epsilon's top sustained winds were about 65 mph (105 kph). It would become the 14th hurricane of the season if its winds reach 74 mph. It was centred about 765 miles (1,230 kilometers) east of Bermuda and about 1,530 miles (2,460 kilometers) west-southwest of the Azores Islands. Forecasters said Epsilon was moving east-northeast near 12 mph (19 kph). The storm was headed in a southeast direction Wednesday. The Atlantic hurricane season lasts six months and officially ended Wednesday. Reprinted from jamaicaobserver.com
