BUOYED by the recent hurricane damage to Cancun, Mexico - a major tourist destination - the upcoming 2005/2006 winter tourist season will be the "best ever," according to Sandals Resorts chairman Gordon 'Butch' Stewart. Stewart told reporters at the weekend that Sandals Resorts had enjoyed its best year ever, and predicted that the increase in visitor arrivals would continue into the winter tourist season, which starts on December 15. Meanwhile, he said Sandals would continue its expansion in the Caribbean by building a new hotel in Grenada, under the Beaches brand, which should open by 2008. While not disclosing the projected cost, Stewart said construction was slated to begin within the next six months. "It will be a Beaches, and it will be fabulous. It will be hot. It will be good. It will be fantastic," boasted the hotel mogul. Grenada will be the fifth Caribbean destination for Sandals, following destinations in Jamaica, Antigua, St Lucia and The Bahamas.
