The Grenada Board of Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, has been mandated to co-ordinate a Host Home Programme. This initiative has been introduced to assist in finding rooms that will be necessary to host the 2007 Cricket World Cup in Grenada. It is designed to encourage owners of private homes in Grenada that are currently occupied to upgrade or expand them to meet specific requirements. Interested individuals who enjoy meeting other people, and are willing to participate in this drive to increase the number of quality rooms available for visitors are invited to contact the Grenada Board of Tourism, or the Ministry of Tourism for further information, along with application forms that are available for that purpose. The public is advised that the Grenada Government has agreed to support this programme by providing duty and tax concessions on building materials, equipment, fixtures and furnishings to persons who wish to expand or improve their current dwellings for that programme. This covers homes that have between one and nine rooms. Successful applicants would be required to provide a high level of safety, comfort, cleanliness and hospitality to all guests. Inspections will therefore be held on an annual basis to maintain prescribed standards. It must be noted that this programme does not apply to apartments that are being let for residential purposes for periods exceeding two months. It also excludes premises that are used exclusively for the accommodation of persons in religious, educational or charitable institutions. Hotels, guesthouses, and villas will not benefit from the current package.
