CARICOM POLITICIANS ACCUSED OF 'DABBLING' IN ST VINCENT...
KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent: Two Caribbean Prime Ministers, Dr Kenny Anthony of St Lucia and Patrick Manning of Trinidad and Tobago, have been criticised by supporters of the New Democratic Party (NDP) who have accused the pair of "dabbling" in the domestic affairs of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In a show of support for incumbent prime minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, Manning described Gonsalves as 'an excellent leader" and one that the Caribbean is in dire need of as moves are being made to integrate the region. Manning went on to add that as the integration drive continues, the dream will only become reality when there are "enlightened" leaders in the Caribbean who fully comprehend all that is associated with the growing internationality community and who are also able to bring their respective countries into the growing mix. Dr. Gonsalves is such a man Manning said. For his part, speaking at Friday night's final musical and political rally at the popular Victoria Park, St. Lucia's Dr. Kenny Anthony pointed out that due to the serious problems affecting the Caribbean at present, St. Lucia and the rest of the region needs a man like Dr. Gonsalves. "You cannot think of putting any ordinary person to take control, you need a man of vision and this is the man who has demonstrated that vision," Anthony said. However, the NDP is up in arms with the statements of Anthony and Manning calling them meddlers in the political affairs of a sister CARICOM country an act that should not be tolerated but both Anthony and Manning have brushed aside the objections contending that there is nothing wrong with voicing support for fellow CARICOM leader.
