TRINIDAD GETS ENGLAND IN WORLD CUP
Trinidad and Tobago football captain Dwight Yorke got his wish when his team was drawn in the group with England at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. The game will be played on June 15 at the Franken-Stadion in Nuremburg. Yorke believes the experience that many of the Trinidad and Tobago players have gained from playing in the English leagues will be an advantage. This was a view shared by another Soca Warrior, goalkeeper Shaka Hislop one of the ten players who play in leagues in England and Scotland. Hislop who plays for West Ham United in the English Premiership told BBC Caribbean Radio it will be an uphill task for Trinidad and Tobago but they extra knowledge will be an advantage. "We'll know our players better than they'll know ours," Hislop said. "It was always going to be an uphill task for us being seeded so lowly but we'll go into the game, knowing the English players, their likes and dislikes better than the players from any other countries." Tough group On the other hand, Hislop admitted that he didn't know very much about Paraguay and Sweden, the two other teams in Group B. "I think the coaching staff will do their research and do their homework and we'll go into those games very prepared." England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has not discounted Trinidad and Tobago's chances and called the group a 'tough' one. "It is not an easy group but it could have been much worse," Eriksson said. Trinidad and Tobago qualified for their first World Cup final after beating Bahrain over two play-offs. They will face Sweden on June 10 at the Westfalenstadion ni Dortmund and Paraguay on June 20 at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern. Reprinted from bbccaribbean.com
