By Roderick St. Clair Exclusive to Grenadianconnection.com Jane Dorsett aka “Nen Jane” of Glassie in River Sallee St.Patrick’s turned 100 years on November 29. Family and close friends celebrated with her on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at a special party held in the neighborhood. Born and raised in the village of Tivoli in St.Andrew’s, Nen Jane attended the Hermitage Government School with the likes of the late Bertie Thomas, Mr Vince and Hugu Thomas. She gave birth to 11 children of which seven are alive today. At 100 years, Nen Jane is a proud grandmother and great-grandmother of 29 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In her younger days, she started working “on the Road’ and later on she showed her talent in making confectioneries and bake and salt fish which she sold to earn a living. Within the village of River Sallee and the surroundings areas, Nen Jane is the only one surviving at 100 years and having been born in 1905 she has seen Grenada through many of it challenges and achievements. Today, Nen Jane reads without the aid of glasses and can even thread a needle. Congratulations Nen Jane, and we pray to the Lord that you see much more and continue to enjoy good health.
