GRENADA'S TUESDAY WATTS REPEATS AS OECS TOP FEMALE SPOR...  
At a meeting held at the Auberge Seraphine Hotel in St Lucia on December 14, 2005 a panel of regional journalist’s met to select the OECS Male and Female Sports Personalities for 2005. Last year (2004), the Sports Personalities selected by the journalist’s were St Vincent’s distance running lean machine Pamenos Ballentyne and Grenada’s swimming sensation Tuesday Watts. The criteria for these awards are: the athlete must represent an OECS country and are judged on their performances in meets, championships and tournaments that take place in the Caribbean. After much discussion between the journalists on the performances of athletes in all the sporting disciplines, two names stood above the rest, but not by much, and were awarded the OECS male and female Sports Personalities for 2005 by a unanimous decision. Trevor Jimmy Levine the St Kitts/Nevis and OECS top golfer after winning three tournaments and placing second in another three as well as captaining the OECS Golf Team was named the 2005 OECS Male Sports Personality and once again Grenada’s super swimmer Tuesday Watts has done her country proud by winning 13 gold medals in regional meets, setting 7 new OECS records and being named the 2005 OECS Female Sports Personality. Trevor Levine topped the list for men followed by Pamenos Ballentyne and Nevis star batsman Runako Morton. Honorable mention were given to Ridley Jacobs, Antigua and West Indies retired wicket keeper and track star Daniel Bailey, Nevis retired opening batsman Stuart Williams, St. Lucia’s cricket all rounder Darren Sammy and distance runner Zephrinus Joseph, Grenada’s world rated 400m runner Alleyne Francique, football stars Sharlie Joseph and Jason Roberts, as well as St Kitts/Nevis world-rated 100m sprinter Kim Collins and footballer Keith “Kayamba” Gumbs. Tuesday Watts topped the list of female athletes followed by St Lucia’s High Jump star Lavern Spencer and St Kitts/Nevis 400m runner Tiandra Ponteen. Honorable mention were given to St Lucia’s cricketer Nadine George for her performances and receiving the MBE, Netballer Deidra Mathurin and swim star Danielle Beaubrun. The OECS will celebrate its 25th Anniversary in 2006 and looks forward to a year filled with outstanding performances by regional athletes and a calendar of exciting sporting events.
