GOVERNMENT CREATING SHORT TERM JOBS  
ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA: Over 10, 000 jobs short term jobs were created from September 2010 to present as a result of the short term job creation measures announced by the Prime Minister in his September 7th address to the nation. Under the Debushing Programme, 1, 400 contracts were awarded amounting to EC$3.13M. This resulted in over 9, 800 jobs. Under the Road Maintenance (concrete roads) Programme, 80 contracts amounting to EC$2.34M were awarded. This resulted in over 500 jobs. Truckers also benefited under these two programmes, with 80 contracts amounting to EC$96,000 awarded. Overall, Government has spent EC$5.58M in the past two and a half months under these two programmes. Government is satisfied that the impact of these short term measures is being felt. According to the Prime Minister, he and his team are determined to see the country “work its way out of this crisis” as they “continue to look for ways to increase jobs, increase economic opportunities and sustain the livelihoods of our people.”
