Hillsborough, Carriacou, September 21, 2011- The Divisions of Public Works and Community Development in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs are hard at work as they have embarked on several infrastructure projects throughout the twin-isle parish. On the eastern side of Carriacou, in the village of Mt. Pleasant, residents have welcomed the commencement of construction of over 800ft of concrete road and drainage. For more than 20 years, they have been clamouring for the improvement of the road which forms part of the round-the-island network. The Mt. Pleasant project is being led by contractor Ronald Gittens, and provides employment for over 10 persons within the community. In the boat-building village of Windward, work has started on the repair of a seawall, as well as on the road, which has been slowly sinking into the sea. Meanwhile, the cross culvert project in the Petite Carenage area is nearing completion. The finishing of the project will pave the way for the commencement of over 1,000ft of concrete road; 300ft of the road will be constructed by the Community Development Division and the other 700 through a public-private sector partnership agreement. Petite Carenage resident, Pastor Leo Fleary, in commenting on the project, said: “We are satisfied”, as for over 50 years no road development took place there. Work is also continuing on the Harvey Vale Back Road project, which has employed in excess of 50 workers since June. More than 1175ft of concrete pavement have been completed and another 200ft is being done by Uncle T’s Construction Services. By Deanna Isaac, Carriacou

And one more thing: Gabe, please advise your government to consider widening the roads to accommodate the ever increasing population. Whoever is heading the planning department should really considering future accommodation of road and population needs.

Littleboy, please stop your wishful thinking: Do you really believe your vote by itself really count? Let's get serious here, littleboy. Unless you begin to mobilize the campaigners and voters in your area to draw attention its road conditions, the your vote by itself will never impact the outcome of an election. Maria Niles, you're not residing in Grenada so there's not much of an impact you'd be able to make.

Littleboy, This should be a priority construction that will provide new roads and jobs at the same time. How is campaigning for this road and bridge overhaul? Maybe you must kiss-up a little more to the New Jewel Movement (NJM).

Maria yes that bridge leads to LaFillette through Grand Bras. When you have a chance do take a look at the bridge and the road leading to the bridge.
