OPPOSITION TEAM VISITS THE PARLIAMENTRY ELECTIONS OFFIC...
A team from Her Majesty Opposition visited the Parliamentary Election Office on Monday January 30th 2012 in their continuous meetings with the office to ensure that the process of Enumeration and registration of voters are done in a very transparent manner. The team from the Parliamentary Elections office was led by the Supervisor Ms Judy Benoit and also comprised the assistant supervisor Mrs. Ada Holder. The New National Party Team was led by the Chairman of the party Senator Gregory Bowen and included the PRO Pastor Winston Garraway. The NNP team raised a number of concerns which they considered to be frustrating the registration process. Having regards to the over two million dollars expended to procure the machine and training for its staff they complained, it is hard to comprehend that many of our citizens such as House wives, Retires, Shopkeepers, Self-Employed and Students have no status. As a consequence of this problem, they have to be given occupations such as Engineers. Another concern raised, is the apparent limitation of the villages ascribed to Polling Divisions which resulted in many persons being given wrong addresses and PD’s. The opposition team pointed out that these concerns if not addressed shortly have the ability to cause more frustration to a people who are already frustrated from the lack of jobs and a declining standard of living. The end result will be people refusing to register. The Electoral team tank the opposition for their visit and further commented that their doors are always open to provide answers to all those who come calling on them for clarification and advise as it relates to the electoral process. As it relates to the opposition concerns regarding enumeration and registeration, Ms Benoit admitted that the concerns raised are true and that they had some challenges with the process. However a technician from the company was on the island recently to rectify the problem and by later this week it should be resolved. She continued by saying they recognized the problem very early and was advised by the company that the system had to go live before they could address the short comings. The very cordial and frank meeting ended with the opposition thanking the Supervisor and her assistant for their openness. However, the opposition would like to know if the flying down of the technician from North America for this and any other issue would result in additional expense to the Grenadian tax payers? The scenario of a snap election very soon after the end of the enumeration period where the old list cannot be used and a low level of registration was raised by the opposition and recognized as a dangerous event by both sides. The Office of the Supervisor took the suggestion of heightened educational promotion advising on the documentation required for various situations as one way forward. The urgent release of the December 31st 2011 electors’ list was also requested by the Opposition team.

OPPOSITION TEAM VISITS THE PARLIAMENTRY ELECTIONS OFFIC...
The Observer would like to commend and give kudos to Pastor Winston Garraway and Bowen for taking on such a sensitive and troubling issues regarding existing and possible technical and human errors that are likely to occur during our next election. It's high time for both parties to ensure the general public is fully educated, aware and informed of all the pending problems that need repairing. Voter registration and proper identification issues must be addresses and corrected in order to ensure a fair and accurate election throughout the country. There should not be any room for human or equipment error.
