GOVERNMENT PUSHES AHEAD WITH PLANS FOR PLAYING FIELD AN...
ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, 14th FEBRUARY, 2012_ The Government of Grenada is committed to providing a recreation ground and resource center for the people of Snell Hall in St. Patrick. A mutual agreement for the exchange of lands between the government and the owner of the Snell Hall lands has been brokered, awaiting a valuation from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Community Development. Under the agreement, a parcel of land similar in value to the portion to be utilized for the Snell Hall project will be provided to Mrs. Noreen Degale, ensuring that government expenditure is minimized. This is in keeping with the Prime Minister’s commitment to accountability, respecting the rights of citizens and his adherence to transparency in the governance process. “My administration will ensure that all legal requirements are met in the process of securing this project. We cannot and must not return to the days of taking people’s property without negotiation or discussions with the owners. There are rules that govern these activities and we will adhere to those rules,” the Prime Minister said Tuesday. This approach is also in keeping with the Prime Ministers vision of a Grenada “where there is justice and hope for ALL” and a reduction in “acrimony and division” as outlined in his 2012 Independence address. The Prime Minister assures residents of Snell Hall that the government is awaiting the finalization of the process to move forward with the construction of the facility, which will provide employment opportunities to the people of the area and enhance the community.
