PRIME MINISTER POINTS TO PROPSECTS FOR TOURISM DEVELOPM...
ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, 27th FEBRUARY, 2012_ Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas has called on the people of St. Patrick to identify and develop sites that have the potential to bring tourists and economic activities to the parish. Speaking at the celebration of the first anniversary of the St. Patrick Environment and Community Tourism Organisation (SPECTO) on Sunday, the Prime Minister hailed the tourism potential of various sites to provide employment for the people of the parish. “We boast of mere sites of historical and geological significance. I urge us to change our view of these assets to one of development opportunities, with the potential for earnings and employment. As a government, we are committed, where possible, to working with the owners of the lands on which these sites are located to provide access to the public and to tourists and visitors,” he declared. Prime Minister Thomas, who is also the Member of Parliament for St. Patrick East, praised the work of SPECTO for “raising the awareness of the potential of our parish, both among our people and within the wider Country, to become more sustainable.” The Grenadian leader pointed to the Levera National Park and its amphi-theatre, Piton, Lake Antoine, Carib’s Leap, the Slave Pen, Carib Stone and the Boiling Spring, among a list of attractions that can be developed and marketed for its tourism value. He said he was particularly excited about the economic potential of turtle watching, which he said, should be developed along with the culture and cuisine of the parish to offer a range of services to visitors and bring benefits to the people of the area. “I think one of the most intriguing areas of our Parish is the turtle nesting and turtle watching asset. There is growing international significance attached to this area, particularly as it relates to conservation and protection,” the Prime Minister said. He called for enhanced security to protect and preserve the resources available to the community and to ensure the safety of those who are visiting the sites.

Well MR Prime Minister may i also agree with Shelly and The other blogger that we MUST first to look at the prevailing conditions within our parishers(clean them up) first and formost and that includes all the things my fellow posters has noted and yes ,sir for example even in your own area there is this carved stone in the river which locals say was done by the caribs, this can also be part of the projects for consideration and while we are on that subject sir why not get the tourist board involved in drawing up a list of places of history for example Diamond Estate and all the other great Estate which was once the only means of work for for earning a living for many of our local people in years gone by yes lets recreate and show these tourist what our people did back then and our major contribution in helping to put the GREAT in GREAT BRITAIN.yes sir let us all help develope our beautiful country first for our people and secondly for thoes who wishes to visit us as tourist. one love
