St. George’s Grenada, Thursday 22nd November, 2012, MOEPRU – More than a dozen secondary school teachers from across the island will participate in a week long training session, on Electricity and Electronic Technology. The workshop, organized by the Curriculum Development Unit of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, will train the educators in the safe use, operation and maintenance of Basic Electronic, Electrical Installation and Microprocessor Technology, as well as equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills in the use of modern technology and equipment. It is hoped that this training will ultimately benefit students so that they can excel in these areas and other related fields. The training, being facilitated by technicians from England, sent by SOTEX - the supplier of technical equipment to schools under the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Project funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) - will be held at the St. Mark’s Secondary School from November 26th to 30th, 2012, from 9:30am to 3:00pm daily. Education officials anticipate that at the end of the training, teachers will be more competent to deliver Electricity, Electronic Technology and other related subject areas to students, causing them to be better trained and exposed to the use of modern equipment, and technology, which should motivate them to pursue advanced studies in associated fields. The one week training is expected to benefit students, Physics Departments, Information Technology Departments and Curriculum Development Officers for Technical Education. Seventeen secondary schools will be represented at the training.
