PREPARATIONS ONGOING FOR GRENADA DAY 2013
April 8, 2013 Organisers of the Grenada Day celebrations in New York are finalising arrangements for the staging of this year’s activity. The event will be held on Sunday July 21 at St Andrews Park (between Atlantic & Kingston Avenues), Brooklyn, New York, according to GRENCAP United. Michael Vincent, Chair of the Grenada Day Committee said that Grenada Day has evolved into a major Grenadian activity in the Diaspora with nationals coming from various cities to participate. He is also inviting mas bands in Grenada to showcase their sketches and costumes at the Grenada Day Festival in July. “The activity is taking place a mere three weeks before our Spice Mas and this is an opportunity for band leaders and other carnival stakeholders to give a preview to the celebrations in Grenada,” said Vincent. “We see this as an exposition of the artistic, cultural and culinary talents of Grenada.” He is also hoping that there will be a closer relationship between the Grenada Day Committee and the Spice Mas Corporation. In addition to the mas bands, the Grenada Day will also include calypso, jab jab, moko jumbie, dancers, big drum, maypole, short knee, Wild Indians, steelband and quadrille dancers, in addition to foods, and arts and crafts. Persons interested in participating including vending can contact Michael Vincent (347 623 9381), Val Adams or GRENCAP United (grencap.united@gmail.com).
