November 4, 2012 The Grenada Consulate in New York has confirmed that a Grenadian was among fatalities from Hurricane Sandy which battered the Tri-State area on Monday. Eden Jolly believed to be in his 60’s and originally from Sauteurs, St Patrick, drowned in flood water in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York on Monday. “It’s with great sadness we inform nationals about this tragic incident,” said Consul General Derrick James. “On behalf of the Grenadian community I want to express sympathies to the family of Mr Jolly.” The news came as the Consulate and GRENCAP United completed a tour of devastated areas in Brooklyn and provided assistance to some Grenadian nationals affected by Hurricane Sandy. A public meeting to discuss assistance is also scheduled for Sunday at Holy Cross School at 2520 Church Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. City and State officials are expected to attend this meeting which starts at 4:00 p.m. “We are bringing together people who could provide useful information for victims of Sandy including home repairs,” said James. The Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique United (GRENCAP) is a grouping of more than 50 Grenadian organisations based in New York. GRENCAP has spearheaded many social activities in New York including the annual Grenada Day Festival in Brooklyn.
