March 10, 2013 World and Olympic 400m champion, Kirani James, and Sports Journalist, Michael Bascombe, are two of the early winners of the Inaugural GRENCAP United Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique United (GRENCAP United) 2013 Awards taking place in New York. James won the sports personality award while Bascombe copped the Media (print, internet, airwaves) award. Both James and Bascombe are en route to South America. The 400m champion is traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to attend the Laureus Sports Award while Bascombe, who will also attend the award on Monday evening, is attending the Latin American Sports Journalists Congress in Asuncion, Paraguay. Last month, Bascombe also received an award for media from the Grenada Independence Anniversary Committee on the observance of Grenada's 39th anniversary of Independence.
