IN THIS TIME OF CELEBRATION LET’S NOT FORGET SOME OF OUR MOST VULNERABLE CITIZENS Richmond Home was set up to welcome Grenada’s most vulnerable elderly when they cannot care for themselves anymore. Most of the residents are elderly people who have lost their independence and do not have family to ensure their care or are destitute. As a result, about 80% of the residents do not benefit from family support. Despite all the efforts put in place by the staff, the material needs of the home in consumables and equipment isn’t met by the Government alone and the home substantially relies on donations for everything from washing powder to major repairs to the building. A number of personal items needed are expected to be provided by the residents or their families, such as toothbrush and paste, Vaseline and talc, slippers, etc. Those needs are unmet unless donations are made. Friends of Richmond Home, a new not-for-profit organization was set up in Grenada to act as a catalyst for support and donations to the Richmond Home for the Elderly. Its action is endorsed by the ministry of health. They have initiated an international fund raising campaign to which Grenadians and Grenadians abroad can donate by visiting this website: http://igg.me/at/richmondhome 100% of the proceed will go to the purchase of needed items for the home. Donations can also be sent by cheque to PO BOX 1125, Grand Anse, St Georges. More information about the organization, the home and what the funds will be used to buy can be found on www.friendsofrichmondhome.com EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS GENEROSITY STARTS AT $1 DONATE GENEROUSLY Donate: http://igg.me/at/richmondhome

CALL FOR DONATIONS TO HELP MOST VULNARABLE
It's a great cause to support. Unfortunately, we need to have people at the center who can be trusted, held accountable and responsible. Past experiences have taught me well, however, The Observer is not dismayed nor discouraged to reach out to out most vulnerable ones. Simultaneously, I caution those in authority to monitor the behavior of those in whose care our seniors are succumbed to. I have made several contributions that were taken by some of the staff who collected them at the port of disembarkation. Our government and NGOs must convince the general public that donations will go directly to the needs of our most vulnerable citizens. It is so disheartening that when some of us give back to our community and country, we are often categorized as wanting to run for political office. Some of our brothers and sisters refuse to volunteer or give anything to those in need...when someone steps in and does give back, they are accused, shunned and hated...the "Crabs in the barrel" mentality.
