AUSTRALIA WITHDRAWS AID COMMITMENT TO GRENADA
Grenada has unfortunately become a victim of a foreign policy shift by the new government in Australia, which has begun withdrawal of aid commitments to the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa. In a dramatic turn of events, Australia has announced that it will phase out all aid programmes to those regions. Australia, under the previous Kevin Rudd administration, had promised AUS $5.1 million dollars as part of the funding for the rebuilding of the new Grenada parliament. At the time, Australia had successfully courted Caribbean and African nations to help it secure a prized seat on the United Nations Security Council. In Opposition, the current government in Australia was strongly critical of the way aid was pledged to assist the campaign. In the case of Grenada, the new policy position of the Australian government means that it is reneging on the signed agreement for aid to help with the reconstruction of our new parliament. This is extremely difficult news, coming at a time when the project is weeks away from starting; and after our government had done all the due diligence on the matter to ensure that it had gotten to this stage. The United Arab Emirates is keeping its promise to provide the USD $5 Million that will also help to fund the project. That aid package was successfully negotiated last year by Foreign Affairs Minister Nickolas Steele. The government of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell is confident that it will be able to negotiate for additional funding to replace the shortfall that will be realized with the Australian government’s decision. Our government has already begun exploring with other friendly governments the possibility of the needed additional funding. Government remains completely committed to building a new home for this country’s parliament. It is a commitment that has transcended Grenada’s governments. Source: gov.gd

Uncle Gairy, huh! The Observer thinks Australia has learned a lesson over the precedent set forth by our government over its treatment of the government of Taiwan. Do you recall while Taiwan was pouring its human and financial resources to help build our country, our government(under Keith Mitchell) switched its support to China's side in the UN? Australia has been observing...

Common sense will tell you that you should whatever resources you have to live. I still cannot understand why we are only paying LIP SERVICE to Agriculture. If God give me singing talent, I know this is what I will use to be successful. WE NEED NEW LEADERS WHO WILL NOT BE LEADING US DOWN THE PATH OF DESTRUCTION AND DEPENDENCY. How are we going to pay back these loans if we are not aggressive with our natural resource, SOIL

Mr The R.H.K C Mitchell, sir when oh when are you and your government going to stop this begging mentality, sir if my memory serves me right the destruction of the parliament building has been in decline throughout you and your government terms in government and nothing was done to the Home of democracy ,sir what has happened to all the funds that was meant to go towards that said building which also include the home of the CID,instead i believe that these funds were in fact channel towards the tourist industry hence today our country is back on the begging trail to every tom dick and harry, lord when is our government going to return our country back to its people so that we can be free from that begging culture, and finally can our foreign minister please explain to the nation as to why the Australian Government has suddenly turn tail on the pledge funding ,and is this a reflection on the fact that your government is not trusted to manage these funds where foreign aid is concern.
