BOTANICAL GARDENS TO BE RENAMED AFTER SIR ERIC
The Grenada government says preparations are well underway for the renaming of the Botanical Gardens after the country’s first Prime Minister, Sir Eric Matthew Gairy. Social Development Minister Hon. Delma Thomas has announced that a team of local and international volunteers will soon begin upgrading the Gardens. “We will have a group of volunteers, international volunteers, who will be joining our local persons, students from TAMCC, in helping to revitalize the whole area to make it an attractive site as we recognize the tremendous contribution that Sir Eric Mathew Gairy made to Grenada,” Thomas announced during Tuesday’s post cabinet news briefing. “Our father of independence, he was our first prime Minister and he has done a lot for our country and we must recognize what he has done.” The renaming of the Gardens is a government initiative to honour Sir Eric, who led the country to independence in 1974. BOTANICAL GARDENS TO BE RENAMED AFTER SIR ERIC
What good did Eric Mathew Gairy do for Grenada From 1951 Sky Red, to Squander Mania, to the Mongoose Gang, to causing a violent revolution? If that qualify him for memorializing the Grenada Botanical Gardens that is now a shanty town, go for it. The proposer and supporters are ignorant of their history and hungry for public recognition. Shame on you.

We want our zoo back and the botanical Garden the way it was. The children of Grenada should be able to see all variety of animals the way we did. It was extremely educational. Grenadians want to have fun while educating themselves

Ms Delma Thomas some would say that such a gester in recognising the contribution made by the late Sir Eric Gairy during his time as our first premier leader by remaining the Botanical Garden after him,but why ask for international Volunteers, why can we used our own home grown talents that we have here in Grenada, also there is a great Grenadian stone artist Name mr Peter McBain previously from Waltham St.Marks now living in New York who i am sure will be willing to do a statue of Sir Eric Gairy and which can be placed at the front entrance of the Garden or the proposed new Houses of parliament, when such buliding is built.
