ST. GEORGE’S - FRIDAY, 13TH JUNE, 2014 – A highlight of the 2013 Carnival Season was the quick payment of competition prizes, including those involving the national steel-band competitions. The NLA created history on Friday, 13th June, 2014 by presenting cheques totalling EC$24,000.00 to eight (8) steel-bands. These bands participated in the SMC/NLA Pan Expressions – formerly known as the “Bomb-Tune Competition.” Representatives of the 8 steel-bands which took part in the first national steel-band competition for the Carnival season, on Sunday, 4th May, 2014 at the Tanteen Hard Court, were awarded their participatory prizes of EC$3,000.00 each. The bands competing were: Waggy T Pan Ossia, Grand Roy Pan Angels, LIME Commancheros, Coyaba New Dimensions, Rainbow City All-Stars, Digicel Florida All-Stars, Pan Lovers and Republic Bank Angel Harps. Suzuki Pan Wizards did not compete. As part of its mandate to support culture within the Tri-Island State, the NLA – through the SMC - continues to contribute to Spice Mas, focusing mainly on the cash prizes for the Junior and Senior Steel-Band Competitions. This year, the total sponsorship amounts to Three Hundred and Fifty-Three Thousand Eastern Caribbean Dollars (EC$353,000.00). At the presentations held at the NLA’s Main Office on the Carenage, SMC Director with responsibility for pan – Mr. Cecil Noel expressed gratitude to the NLA for the early payment of prizes. He added, “The NLA has always played their part. We are extremely grateful for their continued support. Paying out the prize-money at this stage will assist the steel-bands in preparing for the upcoming competitions. We applaud the NLA for this very significant move!” General Manager of the NLA - Mr. Geoffrey Gilbert highlighted the NLA’s support and commitment to the art form. The early payment is quite a significant and historic achievement! Carnival is about two months away, and already we are paying prizes! This speaks volumes for the organization and reaffirms the NLA’s commitment to the growth and development of Steel Pan - 2015 will be even better. In return for all of this, we expect the Association to organize year-round activities to promote pan.” Mr. Miguel Fortune – President of the National Steel-band Association thanked the NLA on behalf of the representatives. He said, “We’re happy that the NLA is on board with us. We hope that the partnership continues and we would do our part.” Picture & Caption - Group Photo with NLA’s General Manager – Mr. Geoffrey Gilbert and Representatives from each Steel-band which took part in the 2014 SMC/NLA Pan Expressions.

I think we as people with God -given "should be " common sense are to blame. When these Politician make promises like "Investors Lining Up", maybe the man is right.Kirani James put Grenada on the Map with his win in the 400 meters race. Didn't he had to line up first to start the race. So maybe that line up they were talking about, but we never ask (HA! HA! The man said he change and he did, for the worse. IT'S ALL OUR FAULT

Shelia Jones i do so agree with you,for it seems that some of our people will never learn, for we are allowing our judgement to be clouded by all the nonsence that comes out of the mouth of some members of the Nnp ministers and their leader for you are quite correct in saying that the brother Mr Kirani James is the biggest advert that we currently have in selling Grenada to decent law abiding investors who wishes to come to Grenada to invest ,aqnd not the dreamers now running our country who is only in it for what they can get to stuff in their backpockets and bank accounts.

Sister Shelia Jones i also agrees with you as to the current way in which this Government will use and ride on anything that would show their rotten Government in good light, but is slow on telling the world what a rotten bunch of deceivers they are by the very methods they used to fool our unsuspected voters to gain power at the last election, take for example the way in which they raised this current level of Taxes,The promises they made about so called investors falling over themselves to come to Grenada to invest, the promises they made to our people re better days ahead ,now the devils has now turned and is wipping the very voters who put them into office with pain and more pain and misery and there is more pain to come when they do sign that final Structural Adjustment Package with the IMF & World Bank.
