WORLD BANK APPROVES US$15 MILLION FOR GRENADA
On Monday, June 30, 2014, the World Bank approved a first disbursement of US$15 million to support Grenada’s Homegrown Programme. This approval comes on the heels of the IMF’s Board approval for Grenada late last week. Over the next two years, the World Bank will make two more disbursements as Grenada continues to deliver on its stated commitments. In reacting to this development, the Prime Minister noted that the World Bank has once again “demonstrated its highly valued support for Grenada to increase resilience, enhance competitiveness and promote faster and higher economic growth.” Prime Minister Mitchell added, “this is further evidence of the confidence of the international community in Grenada’s policies, especially as regarding the Homegrown Programme.” Grenada is expected to receive the disbursements from both the IMF and the World Bank in mere days, at which point Government will implement a number of promised programmes to revitalize the economy. Can the writer of this article; gov.gd, please tell me whether or not this money is a loan, grant or otherwise? Is there any interest involved? and most of all will the Government invest that money in projects that can pay back itself and create real employment? Grenadians are already burdened with debts over debts and should not be hostage to any more debts especially when the borrowers/beggars do not like to pay back. The writer boast about this money as though its a gift and I wish its really is. However there is nothing free in this world.

Prime Minister sir now that the Imf and World bank minies is flowing into Grenada home grown program ,my question is this ,is it not time the nation is told at what cost our people will have to pay back to our Creditors on this massive loan which as you say will be spread over the next three years ,and will our people be once again be asked to take more -HAIR CUTS- because at present our people is crying out aloud for serious leadership in terms of where we are now and where are we heading for it is fair to say that up and down the country our people is suffering from St David,to St Andrews they are suffering having voted for that delivery train which we are now told is loaded with goodies but with heavy Taxed Burdened Dependency Base, yes prime minister sir that is not the picture you and your party painted before the last election, and once again we are now seen as the POOR relation of the Caribbean.

You are so correct. The IMF and World Bank gives nothing free. Grenadians will pay...and dearly. The pain has not yet started. Wait. The worst thing any govt can do is get tied up with these two agencies. Big mistake.
