TRINIDADIANS CRUISE TO SPICEMAS IN GRENADA
Over 300 visitors from Trinidad were expected to arrive at the Burns Point Cruise Welcome Centre on Friday. The Paria Bullet Ferry Service will be making its third consecutive voyage to Grenada for Spicemas. The passenger vessel, travelling 100 miles in three hours, will carry eager revellers and adventurers. Media personnel from ten entities are also travelling to the Spice of the Caribbean to capture Spicemas events with the assistance from IMG Entertainment and the Grenada Tourism Authority. The Spicemas Corporation and the Grenada Tourism Authority launched Spicemas in Trinidad and Tobago on May 9, 2014, hosting a travel agent exposition and media launch. “The success of this event is being seen,” said manager of projects and reporting, Christine Noel-Horsford, who was part of the delegation led by Senator Brenda Hood. “Fully booked rooms and vehicle rentals, and even the ferry service arriving at full capacity is an indication of Trinidadians interest in Grenada and Spicemas.” In 2013, 8,000 visitors were in Grenada during the two-week period of the climax of Carnival, contributing more than EC$18,000 into the economy. The Caribbean market represents 20 percent of these visitor arrivals, with Trinidad and Tobago leading the pack. This year the Paria Bullet alone can inject approximately EC$85,000 over a five-night period. “It is no secret that Grenada and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago have been linked for decades. Our strong historical ties, our family relations, and our traditional connections make Trinidad and Tobago the largest supplier of regional visitors to Grenada,” said Hood in her address to invited guests of the Spicemas media launch in Trinidad. The Grenada Tourism Authority engaged in a public-private partnership to host a meet and greet for the arriving visitors of the ferry service. Patrons will be greeted with Pure Grenadian hospitality, music, nibbles, and drinks. The GTA is targeting the Trinbagonian market annually in an effort to increase tourist arrivals year round.
